1. RS485 is a serial communication link layer protocol based on differential signaling. It resolves the short transmission distance (15m) limitation of the RS-232 protocol and is a widely used link layer protocol for longer-distance data communication in industrial applications. Since it uses a twisted pair to transmit differential signals and operates in half-duplex mode, it requires switching between receive and transmit states.
